Father's Day Festival in Eggleston

We had a great time at the Eggleston Festival on June 16th. A couple dogs found a family interested in adopting them. We enjoyed meeting everyone. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help make the event a success. Here is a picture of Carlos and Sandy showing off how well behaved they are. Both dogs went to new homes shortly after this event in addition to 2 others featured that day.

Press Release

After years of assisting the county, the volunteer group formerly known as Giles County Animal Rescue, Inc. (GCAR) will become Giles Animal Rescue, Inc., effective June 1, 2013.  Giles Animal Rescue will continue working toward creation of a new humane facility for animals, staffed and operated by caring, consistent, and knowledgeable management which promotes adoption.

Many communities across the country are developing alternatives to “kill shelters” as residents accept responsibility for pet overpopulation.  It is a community problem and will take community involvement to overcome.

While these plans develop, we will continue our highly successful foster and transport programs.  We will continue to provide education to the community on the importance of spay/neuter and pet immunization.  We will continue to offer financial assistance to pet owners in need. We will continue to rescue shelter pets, homeless pets, and neglected or abused pets.

We appreciate your support as we go through this transition; we will be updating our email and web addresses as well as our logo.

To learn more about how you can help, attend a regular monthly meeting held at Pembroke Town Hall on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., check out our website at www.gilescountyanimalrescue.org, look for us on FaceBook, or call 540-922-3958.

Adoption Event at Tractor Supply a Success!

On Saturday, March 8, a group of dedicated Giles County Animal Rescue volunteers brought some cute and furry friends — 8 dogs and a cat — to the grand opening of the Tractor Supply store in Pearisburg. By the end of this day-long adoption event, several dogs had found their forever homes.

Volunteers from GCAR and Luv4Hounds set up tables, made available information about spay/neuter practices, provided face painting for children, and let the adoptable animals visit with the store’s customers.

The event would not have been possible, GCAR President Christine Link-Owens said, without the kindness of Tractor Supply management, who moved their own inventory around to make room for the GCAR tables and animal’s crates. “Three cheers to Tractor Supply for supporting animal rescue groups such as ours,” Link-Owens added.

She also extended her thanks to the numerous volunteers who took shifts throughout the day. “It shows what a great team we have right now,” she said. GCAR was able to connect with many community members during this event, and several rescue groups found homes for some wonderful pets.

Pembroke Heritage Festival

Thanks to everyone who came out to support our rescue efforts by donating and purchasing items at our booth at the 2012 Pembroke Heritage Festival. We also appreciate the turn-out for the pet show. It's always nice to see happy pets with their forever families.
